Gas Guzzler In Chief

Update:After the slanted president's vacation poll below, AOL came out with another hit piece titled "Gas Guzzler In Chief," showing how the president uses so much gas when he travels. The article was an obvious bias attempt to bash the president by tapping into driver anger over high gas prices - AOL, have you no shame?

AOL introduces their latest Bush bashing poll as follows: "President Bush's vacation is a polarizing issue. Some complain it's too long. Others say he shouldn't take time off during a war. Still others say he deserves a break. As this debate continues -- along with Bush's vacation -- see what others say and give us your take."

"...along with Bush's vacation"???

If this intro wasn't bias enough, AOL highlights a quote from a James Regalado, referred to as a "political scientist" from California State University. We don't know if he's a professor, a student or janitor - any guess what he thinks about President Bush's vacation?

He says,

{Americans} "are seeing the president on vacation when the rising number of...deaths is bringing the war all too close to home."

If the president didn't take a vacation, do you think James's opinion of Bush would be different?

The poll question is "Should Bush take a vacation during a war?" The question begs a negative response and the AOL sheeple don't disappoint. With over 100,000 voting it's No 60% and yes 40%.

But put this poll in context: In other polls AOL members agreed that "Bush killed her {Cindy Sheehan} son, 53%(210,524 voting); He is handling the Iraqi war poorly, 61%; and handles domestic affairs poorly, 58% - the latter two results were based on 90,068 votes.

In the past the MSM has referred to President Reagan's ranch as the "Western White House" and referred to past presidents as taking a "working" vacation - but this Bush hating press gives him no quarter.

Swift Boating Cindy Sheehan

The left is great at establishing urban myths and turning them into slogans. Democratic sloganeering was the thing to do in the 60s and 70s - like the classic "hell no we don't want to go" and others. They haven't lost their creativity with recent slurs such as -"Bush was selected not elected" and "Bush lied and people died."

While not a slogan yet, liberal columnists are adding a new term to the political lexicon. Frank Rich in the New York Times used the new "verb" in a recent op-ed when he claimed that the right was "Swift Boating Cindy Sheehan." But his use of the term "Swift Boating" wasn't original. Methinks he stole this slur from Scott Lehigh who, in a Boston Globe op-ed published August 12, reached back to the Swift Boat Veterans expose' of Kerry's military record to draw a parallel between what he considers to be the smearing of John Kerry and the smearing of John Roberts by the NARAL TV commercial. Lehigh tells us that; sure, the NARAL commercial was a smear, just like the Swift Boat Vets smeared Kerry.

The SBVet's expose' has to be a smear, otherwise there would be yet another very strong case of bias against the MSM - one that would be hard to spin. Because Lehigh slips in his Vets' smear as an aside, he doesn't justify his assertion - he just presents it as a fait accompli.

You see this tactic used by liberals on cable talking head debates. A Democrat may refer to an issue as a fact although it has nothing to do with the subject in debate, but it slip by unrefuted.

Will we see more headlines like: GOP Swift Boats Hillary or Swift Boating Ted Kennedy (Ted could have used a boat in the past). Stay tuned.

U.N., Hands Off Internet

"On July 1, 1997, as part of the Clinton Administration's Framework for Global Electronic Commerce, the President directed the Secretary of Commerce to privatize the domain name system (DNS) in a manner that increases competition and facilitates international participation in its management." Here

President Jimmy Carter gave away the Panama Canal and Clinton tried to turn over control of the Internet to International mangement.

But this past June adults were in charge when the "Bush commerce Department announced the United States would “maintain its historic role” in authorizing changes to the Internet’s domain name system. That statement is widely viewed as a step back from a 1998 Commerce policy. "

Still the U.N. is salivating at the thought of controling the Web.Web Wrestling At The U.N.

If John Bolton does nothing else at the UN other than keeping that global body from appropriating the Internet, then his appointment was well worth the acrimony it caused.

"Who" of News Story Left Out

A basic journalist tenet dictates that a reporter should supply the "who, what and when" of a news story. Of course, AP makes its own rules.

On Friday August 12, AP reported that "House GOP Members Urge Delay on ANWR." Twenty-four GOP representatives signed a letter to House Speaker Hastert asking that ANWR would not be included in the energy bill reconciliation debate. The budget reconciliation document, which has the force of law if approved and signed by President Bush, is not subject to filibuster.

Several committee chairs were identified, but the names of all twenty-four signers were not published or linked. FOX carried the AP story and did not link the names - evidently they were not available, since Fox links everything. A search of the Internet and a call to the Speaker's office did not uncover the names. One gentleman in the Speaker's office suggested I file a Freedom of Information request.

Are the names available; and if not, are the signers avoiding notoriety to "cover their collective asses and escape what would be an avalanche of emails as gas approaches $3.00 a gallon?

Are we seeing here, politicians as "gutless wonders" - escaping accountability, but still pandering to enviros? Stay tuned as we exercise our need-to-know.

What AOL and Aljazeera have in Common

AOL must be the ISP of choice for anti-Bush, anti-US and Anti-Iraq war protesters. When AOL runs an online poll, you can count on 60% to 70% of respondents being anti-administration. In a recent poll 67% of AOL members felt Bush was responsible for high gasoline prices; 57% think that Bush takes too many vacations; and members overwhelmingly thinks Bolton is too nasty to be UN Ambassador.

In addition, AOL is blatantly bias on their news page. For example this morning three stories were featured; "NFL Brawl, Child Obesity and SOLDIER'S MOM PICKETS RANCH."

Other news outlets giving the story legs include the China Daily, The Iranian Quran News Agency; and the usual suspects, Boston Globe, Seattle Times, LA Times, NYT, CNN, Salon and our unbiased friends at Aljazeera.

Aljazeera Online covers four stories in their Global section - one story given(25%) prominence is, of course, protesters at President Bush's ranch - AOL gave the story 33% of their news page.

ABC features six news stories on their web page, one of which is the "protester" story. In a Google search and on their web page, I did not find this story on Fox.

Evidently Fox editors judged that there was other news, more important than another antiwar protest. But AOL has no compunction in publicizing those that would bring the US to its knees - as is the agenda of Aljazeera constituents. Witness the following Aljazeera report.

More US soldiers have died in Iraq since George Bush declared an end to the war on 1 May 2003 prompting the question: Will Iraq turn into a new Vietnam eventually bringing the US to its senses ... or perhaps to its knees?
Iraq's history, and along with it that of the Arab Muslim world, speaks of several similar encounters. In the past, enemies attacked from East and West before they were swallowed by the moving sands of the region, or forced to retreat, leaving behind a phoenix-like people who adore life and still accept to die for their freedom.
The escalating Iraqi resistance seems to be setting the stage for another act which might usher in a new Arab World or set the clock ticking for the end of yet another empire.

And this quote is from the English online version of Aljazeera - you can imagine the Arabic version.

Is there any question why President Bush's approval numbers are so low and why support for the Iraq war has waned? The anti-administration press is so pervasive it reaches in to our homes via what should be a fairly benign ISP web page. I wonder how many parents are not aware that their children are being overtly propagandized by AOL?
